The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse
A town mouse and a country mouse were friends. One day the country mouse asked his friend to come and see him at his home near the wood. The town mouse liked the idea. Soon he visited his friend. He drove to the country in his car.
The country mouse’s house was small. There was only one room in it, but it was cosy and nice. The country mouse grew flowers near his house. The mice sat down to the table. There were seeds [si:dz] and roots [ru:ts] on the table. They spent some time at the table, ate some seeds and drank some water. The town mouse didn’t like the food.
He said: “My dear friend, you live here no better than the ants. Come and see my house and all things I can eat.”
So when the town mouse was ready to leave, he decided to take the country mouse with him. It was evening when they came to a big beautiful house. The town mouse showed his friend a big larder ['lɑ:də] with lots of good food. There was cheese, butter and eggs. There was a lot of milk and cream too. The country mouse liked the food very much. Soon they began their supper. But before they started to eat they heard some voices ['vɔɪsɪz], the door opened and a man came in. The two mice ran into a narrow dark hole [həʊl] under the floor. Soon the door closed and the mice wanted to have their supper, but again they heard some voices, and the door opened again.
This was too much for the visitor. “Goodbye,” said the country mouse. “I’m going home. I can see that you live in a rich house with a lot of food, but your home is a dangerous ['deɪnʤərəs] place. I my house I can enjoy my food, in your house I couldn’t.”

Дом полевой мыши был маленьким. В нем была только одна, но очень уютная и милая, комната. Около дома полевая мышь выращивала цветы. Мыши сели за стол. На столе были только семена и корешки. Она посидели за столом некоторое время, покушали семян и попили воды. Городской мыши еда не понравилась.
Он сказал: «Мой дорогой друг, ты живешь здесь не лучше, чем муравьи. Приходи посмотреть мой дом и то, что могу есть.»
Когда городская мышь был готов уезжать, он решил взять полевую мышь с ним. Был вечер, когда они приехали в большой красивый дом. Городская мышь показал своему другу большую кладовку с множеством хорошей еды. Там был сыр, масло и яйца. Также было много молока и сливок. Полевой мыши еда очень понравилась. В скором времени они начали свой поздний ужин. Но перед тем, как начать, они услышали какие−то голоса, дверь открылась и вошел мужчина. Две мышки побежали в узкую темную дырку в полу. Скоро дверь закрылась и мышки хотели ужинать, но опять услышали голоса и дверь открылась снова.
Для гостя это было чересчур. «До свидания,» сказала полевая мышь. «Я иду домой. Я вижу, что ты живешь в богатом доме и множеством еды, но твой дом – опасное место. В моем доме я могу наслаждаться едой, в твоем я не мог.»
