Once upon a time, there was a very fast hare and a very slow tortoise — Жил-был очень быстрый заяц и очень медленная черепаха.
The hare always laughed at the tortoise because he was so slow. — Заяц всегда смеялся над черепахой, потому что она очень медленная.
All the animals were tired of listening to the hare. Then one day the tortoise surprised them all: ‘Let’s have a race tomorrow then!’ — Все звери уже замучались слушать зайца. Тогда в один прекрасный день черепаха удивила всех: «Давайте устроим гонку завтра!»
Then next day, when they started the race, the hare jumped forward. Very soon he was far ahead of the tortoise. — На следующий день, когда гонка началась, заяц поскакал вперед. Очень скоро он был уже далеко впереди черепахи.
It was very sunny day and the hare was very hot. ‘There’s a tree. I can rest under it!’ — Был солнечный день и зайцу было очень жарко. «Тут есть дерево. Я могу отдохнуть под ним!»
A few hours later, the tortoise passed the sleeping hare… — Спустя несколько часов черепаха проползла мимо спящего зайца…
Suddenly, the hare opened his eyes and looked around. He saw the tortoise at the finish line! — Неожиданно заяц открыл глаза и огляделся вокруг. Он увидел черепаху у финишной линии!
The tortoise was the winner! The hare learned his lesson the day: ‘Keep on going and don’t stop until you cross the finnish line!’ — Черепаха победила! А заяц усвоил урок: «Продолжай движение и не останавливайся, пока не пересечешь финишную линию!»
